I-595 Express Corridor Improvements Design-Build
Prior to joining Pinnacle, Sergio Gonzalez, PE served as the senior project engineer for FDOT’s Oversight CEI Team of the $1.2 billion Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project. This Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain (DBFOM) Project consisted of the reconstruction of the I-595 mainline for the addition of reversible express lanes and all associated improvements to frontage roads and ramps from the I-75/ Sawgrass Expressway interchange to the I-595/I-95 interchange, for a total length along I-595 of approximately 10.5 miles, and approximately 2.5 miles on Florida’s Turnpike from Peters Road to Griffin Road.
The major project components included: the new construction of 15 Category 2 bridges, three at-grade reversible express toll lanes, the addition of auxiliary lanes on I-595 along with combined ramps, cross-road bypasses, and grade-separated entrance and exit ramps (braided ramps), widening/reconstruction of 2.5 miles of the Florida’s Turnpike mainline and improvements to the I-595/Florida’s Turnpike interchange, 13 sound barriers providing noise abatement for 20 communities, and implementation of an Express Bus Service within the corridor.
A major responsibility included conducting DB plans review and traffic control plan workshops using innovative smart board technology to ensure that construction through the multi-phased segmented corridor remain cohesive and efficient.
