Tamiami Canal Bascule Bridge Replacement
Construction of single-leaf bascule bridge with 0.5 miles of roadway reconstruction. Relocation of existing historical swing bridge to unite two City of Miami parks, spanning Comfort Canal, serving as a pedestrian bridge. Replacement of the historic swing bridge over the Tamiami Canal with a new single leaf, simply-supported trunnion bascule bridge.
Scope of work included relocating the existing historic swing span, demolition of the pivot pier, existing control house and abutments and the construction of a new bascule pier and rest pier, and control house, as well as a new mechanical span drive system, control system, and electrical system.
Responsible for quality assurance of the field inspection and contract compliance for the new bridge mechanical and electrical systems. Ensured mechanical components were installed and aligned in conformance with Contractor’s approved installation plan and that all fits, tolerances and clearances were within approved limits.
Ensured electrical components were installed in conformance with approved shop drawings and installation plan. Verified conductor integrity and control system performance following completion of field wiring and start-up. Assisted Project Administrator in preparing responses to contractor involving electrical and mechanical issues.
